Typically, a firm operating internationally is part of a complex supply chain. Global supply chains require highly coordinated flows of goods and services, within national boundaries. Maximizing profits in a multi-national environment involves sourcing from locations that offer the lowest procurement costs, lowest purchase costs in the lowest cost countries, manufacturing and combination products, and marketing in high potential demand centers. Several recent events (for example, the SARS epidemic, and the September 11 terrorist attacks, and more recently, Hurricanes Rita and Katrina) demonstrate that an event affecting a supply chain unit or process the operations of other supply chain members Can disrupt, Therefore, when selecting and implementing risk management strategies, it is important to look at the entire supply chain in all countries. The risks and vulnerabilities of complex supply chains have a wide acceptance in the literature.
