Top 7 Tips to Stay Motivated at Work
by Pallavi Patel
Staying motivated at work sometimes can be one of the most challenging things you’ll do all day, but it is also one of the most important. The difference between peak performance and burnout is often motivation. Suppose you’re pushing yourself to work through distractions and fatigue. In that case, you’re staying on track to achieve your future goals and get ahead in your career. But if you let yourself be distracted or lose focus, you can quickly find yourself spinning your wheels instead of progressing toward your goals. So how do you stay motivated at work? Follow these seven tips to stay motivated at work to help keep your head above water and your eyes on the prize.
Things you must consider to stay Motivated:
1. Make a Work Plan -
If you don’t know what needs to get done, you won’t have an idea about how to do it. The plan may change as events dictate, but something is always better than nothing. And if you have a better way of doing things or think of something important later on, your plan will allow you to edit your tasks easily. So put together a plan for yourself and check off items throughout your day—this will keep you and your seniors happy!
2. Write it Down -
By writing down a daily list of three to five tasks you want to accomplish, you’ll have a tangible way of making sure that nothing slips through your mind. You may think of other things you need or want to do during the day, but having an official list will prevent those from slipping off your mind. If you get stuck on something, cross it out and move on; returning later to work on it will be much easier if fewer items are left on your list.
3. Set Mini-Goals -
Often, our most significant goals can seem so significant that we feel paralyzed. Break them down into smaller tasks to avoid being overwhelmed by big goals. For example, if you have a project due in a week, set mini-goals for every day leading up to it. It will help you be consistent and on track and ensure you don’t burn out or give up when things get complicated.
4. Create an Invigorating Work Environment -
According to some studies, employees are happier and more productive when they can be in a comfortable atmosphere, or just enjoy their surroundings. Take time on your lunch break to go outside, walk around your office building or even sit in silence for five minutes. That’s all it takes to re-energize you before you start work again.
5. Read something that puts things into Perspective -
Not everyone needs a pep talk to get going, but sometimes an encouraging dose of perspective is all you will need for some days. If you’re feeling uninspired, take a moment before you begin your workday and read a few pages from a book that puts things in perspective. That could be anything from The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod—a morning routine bible for those serious about success—to The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin.
6. Feed Your Brain Good Stuff -
You’re going to want to make sure that you keep your energy up during a busy work day. It’s easy for our brain to become depleted and find it hard to develop good ideas when we run out of energy fuel. You can boost your energy by staying hydrated, eating plenty of protein and carbohydrates (the good stuff), and avoiding sugar and caffeine. Try to avoid caffeine because it can cause fluctuations in energy levels throughout your day. Remember: fueling your body will feed your mind!
7. Talk about it with your Colleagues -
After you have worked hard and accomplished something important, it is a good idea to discuss it with your colleagues. It will boost your self-confidence, keep you motivated and help you improve for next time. Others’ input matters! Never work alone; there are always people around who can help you in some way or another. If there aren’t people around that might be helpful, then reach out online on social media or make some new friends.
Having trouble staying motivated at work is common, and you’re not alone; many people struggle with this daily due to various reasons. Now that you have gone through the tips on how to stay motivated at work, you must consider trying it. That way, you’ll stay motivated and lighten up the atmosphere of your work area, along with scaling up your productivity level because of your increased focusing power.
