‘Do Less and Think More’: Expert Tips on Boosting Productivity for Business Leaders

           ~by Rabsimar Kaur

Build focus like a muscle, take a break and prioritize ‘deep work’ – the secrets to achieving your Business Goals

We often assume that productivity means getting more things done each day. Wrong. Productivity is getting important things done consistently. And no matter what you are working on, there are only a few things that are truly important.

1)Have a Good Routine

“Humans are creatures of habit and the better our routine, the more productive we are". Having a routine helps our mind to settle down it's thought and helps it to function properly as it prepares the mind to complete simultaneous tasks.

2)Outsource where you can

Even solo business leaders shouldn’t try to do everything themselves.Focus on what you’re good at, the skills that have made you successful and spend more time doing that.”Other tasks can be delegated to employees or outsourced to specialists such as accountants, virtual PAs, designers etc

3)Build focus like a Muscle

The past two years of pandemic-related uncertainty and stress have had an impact on our attention spans, memory and ability to problem-solve or be creative. The good news is, it’s reversible. Tracking the working week to see where time can be spared, such as scheduling meetings back to back, rather than with short breaks in between can help to build more focus.

4)Prioritize ‘Deep Work’

“Deep work” is the ability to focus without distraction, to quickly master complicated information and produce better results in less time. So choose a work that needs your attention the most, prioritize it, and then do it with full dedication to drive best results for yourself.

5)Create Accountability

One of the challenges for business leaders is the lack of accountability when you work alone. “One of the ingredients for deep work practice is the ritual of accountability. Accountability helps an individual to work best as when a person is accountable, he/she prioritizes his/her work with deep attention.

6)Take a break

It might sound counter-intuitive, but resting during the work day is one of the most effective things business leaders can do when it comes to optimizing productivity. Many business leaders are perfectionists and find it hard to switch off, but taking a five-minute break to “eat, move, breathe, or reconnect with nature” each cycle will help to prevent burnout.

These points when kept in mind will not only help you to boost your productivity but will also drive you best results for yourself. Business leaders are successful because they know which task to prioritize, delegate and which task requires your utmost attention. So keep these things in mind to be a successful business leader.
